Digging Holes

I have spent most of this week digging test holes for a few fruit trees my mom and her boyfriend are bringing us this Sunday.   Last week I sent a list of different types of fruit trees that will do all here and they are going to pick up 3 or 4 this weekend for us.   They will be coming in 15 gal.  pots and will already baring fruit.   Hopefully this means we’ll have fruit next season.

The beginning of the week I spent digging a few test holes about 18″ deep and just as wide.   The first two spots that I dug were out across the pond but they didn’t drain very well and I am scared of root rot from sitting in water because of the clay out there.   So it was then on to our second area for our trees,  closer to the driveway and front of the lot.  With a lot less clay of here the holes drained great and I was on to digging 3 holes all about 3′ wide and 3′ deep.

Tree area with small rock wall

Around the 3rd hole I spent yesterday collecting rocks and building a small rock wall.  The area inside the wall is big enough to plant some garlic around the base of the tree and to have a picnic bench in.   Hopefully shaded by the tree in layer years.
