Officially land owners

Last week all the paperwork got signed and our payment was processed, so we are now officially land owners. Yeah!!! Being as excited as we are, we had to make a quick trip up north to our lot this weekend for a day trip with my dad. On the way we stopped and looked at a few RVs in the Redding area and then one in Shingletown. The first I was too tall to stand being 6′ 5″, the second two were both in our price range and definitely livable since we are planning on using it while we build on our lot, not long term.

Driving highway 44 from Shingletown to our lot was quiet fun, it snow enough that the plows were out clearing the road. Once we came over the hills into Big Valley the sun broke through and gave us a few hours of clear skies while we explored our lot for the first time as owners. Not having a lot of time we were not really able to do much except walk the property lines to show my dad the size of the lot and get a look at it from each corner of the area. My Dad pointed out that the markers are probably not very exact and that we should have someone come out and give us a better idea of the exact corners. Something I will be looking into.

The strawberries that we planted survived and have some new growth. However the raspberries don’t look to be doing as well. One looks like it will make it and has some new leaves forming, but the other looks as if the cold might have gotten to it, hopefully it will pull through. Other than that, as we we were driving away from our plot we saw a heard of antelope and stopped and took a picture.

We can’t wait for myself to be able to get a few consecutive days off with some clear weather so we can got up and spend more than a few hours to make some improvements. We also believe we found a place where we might be able to get free gravel for our driveways. A shovel and a few buckets are already on our list of things to bring on our next trip.
